The charity was founded in 1968 by a group of parents whose children had Autism. Since the humble beginnings, Autism Wessex has striven to gain expert knowledge and experience to help anyone affected by Autism. Our help is varied and far-reaching. Our services are available to anyone who needs them – people with Autism and associated difficulties, families and professionals.
We provide three main areas of support:
The Portfield School is a long-established specialist school in Christchurch for children aged 3-19 who hold an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis (ASD). They may also have many associated conditions or disabilities. We believe that if children are happy and able to develop self-confidence, good things will follow.
Whether you’re looking for information on diagnosis, benefits, education or everyday life, our Community Connection Service offers information on different topics related to Autism. We’ll connect you to services in the community, which meet your needs.
Our dedicated Community Support and Residential Services offer a range of personalised social care services for people with Autism and associated difficulties.
