Our Mission
The Wessex Autistic Society aims to ensure that people with autistic spectrum disorders receive appropriate education, care, support and individual development services.
The Society aims to achieve this through the following activities:
- Direct service provision
- Co-operation with other agencies
- Advocacy
- Supporting carers and professionals
About the Society
Founded in 1968 by parents of children with autism, The Wessex Autistic Society is a voluntary (non profit) organisation concerned for the welfare of people with autism and their parents/carers.
Since then the Society has developed a number of services for both children and adults as well as offering emotional and practical supports to families. The Society's work is underpinned by its Core Values and guided by its Mission Statement.
The Society is a membership based charitable company and is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. Our registered charity number is 1000792 and our registered company number is 2506982. The Society's registered office is Bargates Court, 22 Bargates, Christchurch, Dorset. BH23 1QL.
We are affiliated to the National Autistic Society and a founder member of Autism Alliance (UK) forming part of a network of non profit agencies in the United Kingdom.
