Autism Initiatives
Our Mission
We aim to meet the needs of people with autism, their families and carers throughout the UK by providing the building blocks through a comprehensive range of services which are personal, professional and innovative.About Autism Initiatives:
Autism Initiatives is a charity that was established in 1974. Pat Minshull had a son, Peter, with Autism and was concerned about the lack of specialised help available. She led an extensive fundraising campaign, supported by her helpers and friends. This led to the establishment of Peterhouse school at 29 Chambres Rd Southport. The school was opened by Harold Wilson.By 1985 the charity had developed further and a separate provision, Petersfield Autistic Community, was established in Crosby, Merseyside, catering for post 19 young adults. Since then, the organisation has continued to expand as it has continued to seek to respond to the needs of individuals with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and their families.
It is recognised that the prevalence of Autism has increased dramatically. We seek to:
- respond where possible to the needs of individuals with ASD by developing meaningful dialogue with commissioners and parents.
- to develop and manage services distinguished by their excellence in their individualised understanding of the Autistic Spectrum and statutory requirements and accountability.
